Are You Listening to Yourself?

As we leave 2012 behind us and transition into 2013, I have one thought for you to ponder. What is the origin of your perceived needs. Not your wants, we are all usually pretty good at knowing our true desires. However, knowing ourselves deep down where needs originate, many of us have let too many others influence us into believing we need situations, people, careers, educations, even material possessions which truly don’t resonate with us. While also allowing others to coerce us into believing our needs are not really needs, but merely wants. When we allow ourselves to be manipulated or overly influenced by others, we may mis-label needs and desires to the point we even confuse ourselves. In this state of confusion, we may strive for situations, people, etc. which don’t resonate with us while denying true needs which will bring us fulfillment and peace.

So, as you ring in 2013, I invite you to meditate on your perceived needs versus wants and really listen to your inner voice, higher self, and spirit guides. Then resolve to make 2013 the year you follow your heart and spirit.

As I sit here, in front of my fireplace, watching snow fall, with old Abbott and Costello movies on TV, anticipating an elegant dinner and quiet evening with William, I wish you all a safe New Year’s Eve, and a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous, and truly spiritual New Year.

An Uncharacteristic Rant

I don’t rant often, but when I do . . ., let’s just say you’ve been warned. Lately, I’ve seen an increasing number of supposedly metaphysically gifted people using scare tactics to coerce people to buy their services. Now, first let me say that sometimes a little “forewarned is forearmed”, but to generally throw it out that you need to seek their unique advice or you, your relationship, health, finances, etc. are doomed, is, in my opinion, wrong.

What put me on this rant? Well, I realized the Chinese New Year will be coming up and I am a big advocate of Feng Shui, so I was researching 2013 from a Feng Shui perspective. While on a website describing the Year of the Snake, I saw a link for Chinese Horoscopes. So, I clicked on it, and found nothing positive for anyone. I checked myself and my daughter (the Rat), William (the Rooster), my grandson (sheep) and there was something very negative in all of them.

I believe in astrology as well as numerology and many other forms of divination. However, I also know that we are all responsible for our energy, our actions, and our intentions, therefore, our personal energies are interacting with (or against) the energies of the planets, the number energy around us, and our relationship with the earth, moon, stars, animals, Spirits, Universal Consciousness, angels, other people, you get the idea. So, when anyone puts out the idea that something dire will happen to you just because of your birth sign (which if you think about it, there are only 12 and there are roughly 3 billion people on the planet divided by 12; you do the math) so you better get your personalized reading right away to find out if this applies to you; they’re using scare tactics.

Whew, sorry for the rant, there are truly gifted psychics, astrologers, palm readers, empaths, and many others who can help you see your way in a very chaotic life, just please be careful and don’t let anyone scare you into buying their services because that isn’t an honorable use of a spiritual gift and you could get caught in some of the fallout from the negativity they’re creating. And, finally, let me say that I’ve personally worked with two very gifted people right here on wordpress, beautiful women whose blogs I follow, and they have always used only love and light when delivering their messages and offering their services. This is the difference when a true spiritual gift is being used for honorable purposes.

Reconciling Conflict

I have to laugh when I think of all the directions this post could take. But if you know me at all, you know I’m taking this down the spiritual path. As we grow older our memories of early life become more vivid. This is not the post for explaining why, I’ll leave that for another day. However, as I meditate and look for new and innovative ways to connect with the spirit world, more and more memories from my childhood surface. Which more often than not, these memories involve my Celtic/Christian grandfather. Most people automatically assign very pagan rituals and beliefs to the Celts and to some degree they are correct. My grandfather saw the connection between Celtic beliefs and Christian teachings and worked it like magic . . . literally.

What I learned and now am seeing more and more clearly is the all-encompassing connections among all spiritual/religious/universal beliefs and practices. Almost all beliefs have a God, Divine Creator, Universal Consciousness which is at the head or is a beginning for all life, both physical and spiritual. Obviously we have unique names and there are some unique attributes, but a “God Head” nonetheless. Then of course, they all have lesser god(desses), demigod(desses), prophets, angels, spirits of all kind and manner. I’m aware I’m not telling you anything you probably don’t already know. The issues arise when you realize you have beliefs different from or appearing adverse to your core belief system; then what?

Then you look for the commonalities and connections with your warring beliefs. For example, I have a friend who was raised Buddhist. She’s a great person and lives her religion every day. One day while we were hiking I told her she would make a very good Pagan. At first this hurt her feelings, but then I pointed out to her some core beliefs she lived by that were considered very ‘Pagan.’ She has the highest respect for nature, she is such a ‘tree huger’ she puts me to shame; she is a vegetarian only because she cares so much for animals (even fish and fowl), she can’t bring herself to eat them; she pays strict attention to the phases of the moon because she is so fascinated with them; she is very interested in the Pagan holidays and changing seasons; but was afraid to experiment with them. So we spent the rest of the day making the connections between her Buddhist beliefs and Pagan beliefs.

Another good example is my Celtic/Christian beliefs. At first glance it may seem a conflict of interest so to speak to carry and honor both belief systems. The truth is I carry many belief systems, these are just the two dominant. I start by realizing I believe God made everything, then I go to Jesus is God’s son, then I go to God made all the other prophets (Buddha, Mohammed, etc.) who all have excellent teachings which we should live by; then I go to God made the planets, moon, stars, seasons, animals, plants, and it is all good. So when I practice my Celtic (a/k/a Pagan) rituals and beliefs, I’m still honoring all that God made.

When we resolve the perceived conflicts of differing beliefs within ourselves, then we can see the way to resolving the perceived conflicts with other people.

The Science of Spirit

I saw on Facebook recently a post which said “Magic is science that hasn’t been discovered yet”, which I partly agree with, but not entirely. Magic is from my perspective, the science of the spirits. Its how their dimension operates and how they function in their dimension.

Many shaman, medicine men (and women), and other evolved spiritual people can walk in both worlds. Its like having one foot in this dimension and one foot in the spiritual dimension. Which can be very comforting when you see and/or feel both worlds at the same time.

Performing healing when it defies modern medicine is part of walking in both worlds. It’s being able to sense the underlying metaphysical origin of an aliment, heal the underlying cause and help speed the recovery from the resulting illness from a purely non-medical perspective.

Being able to see auras around plants, the ground, birds, animals and people is also a magic which to the spirits seems more like science. Reading others’ energy and sensing they core motivation is also a type of magic to us, but common to the spirits. We call psychic abilities such as ESP, clairvoyance, clairaudience, telepathy, and astral projection ‘magic’. Because it defies our limited perception of science, therefore, we label it as something ‘other worldly.’ Which, it is, because it is the science of the spirit world.

After the Healing

Much has been written about metaphysical and spiritual healing. But what happens after the healing? Many people think the work is done and life just falls into place. Unfortunately, even after intense, changes your outlook on life healing, there is still more to work on. In fact, the work never really stops, it does get easier, but having the life you want, is something you must always be paying attention to.

For starters, after the healing, you’re directing your attention in new, healthier directions. If true healing has occurred, instead of focusing on what’s wrong with you, hopefully you’ll be appreciating all the things which are right with you. In stead of worrying about the old negative, you’ll be pulling the positive from deep within you. And finally, instead of allowing other energies to keep you trapped in your old life, you’ll be figuring out how to project your own energy out so that the universe begins picking up on your new vibrations.

Yes, this is law of attraction, but it’s more than that. Even when you think you’re holding space for your desires and how it will feel to attain those goals, in order for those goals to hone in on you, you’ve got to change the frequency you’re sending out. I’m not referring to the frequency of the goal, I’m referring to the frequency of the person you’ll be when you finally reach the goal and are living the new life. Because to live a new life, you have to be a ‘new you.’ For the ‘changes’ you want to come in, you have to change to receive and to have the ‘new life’ you have to be a ‘new person’ who fits into that new life.

Twas the Night Before Christmas

Santa_in_Sleigh

Twas the night before Christmas and all throught the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse,
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there,
The children were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of sugar plums danced in their heads
And momma and her kerchief and I and my cap
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave a luster of mid-day to objects below
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a minature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer
With A little old driver so lively and quick
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name
Now Dasher, now Dancer, now Prancer and Vixen
On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen,
To the top of the porch to the top of the wall
Now dash away, dash way, dash away all,
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricanes fly
When they meet with an obstacle mount to the sky
so up to the house top his coursers they flew
with a sleigh full of toys and St. Nicholas too
And then in a twinkling I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof
As I drew in my head and was turning around
Down the chimney St. Nicolas came with a bound
He was dressed all in fur from his head to his foot
His clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack
His eyes how they twinkled, his dimples how merry
his cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow
And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath
He had a broad face and a little round belly
That shook when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly
He was chubby and plumb, a right jolly old elf
And I laughed when I saw him in spite of myself
A wink fof his eye and a twist of his head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread
He spoke not a word but went straight to his work
And filled all the stockings then turned with a jerk
And laying his finger aside of his nose
And giving a nod up the chimney he rose
He sprang to his sleigh to his team gave a whistle
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle
But I heard him exclaim ‘ere he drove out of sight
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

Holiday Music

I really could not think of a better way to spend Sunday than with some music which stirs emotions for the heart and spirit. Enjoy!

Happy . . . Merry . . . Joyous . . .

I officially have the Christmas spirit. I’m emotionally ready to celebrate in a completely new way this year. Of course when I was young I reveled in the gifts, anticipation of waiting for Santa, sitting outside in the cold dark listening intently for sleigh bells or a glimpse of the angels watching over the night skies. And I really don’t care what you call this magical time of year; Christmas, Hanukkah, Advent, Yule, the holidays, or ‘just another day’. Yesterday marked the beginning of the twelve most spiritual days of the year for me. I celebrated the solstice, and I have something special planned for each of the remaining eleven days of Yule. William and I have decided to celebrate in more traditional, ‘old ways’ this year. There will not be presents under our tree, of course we took care of our children and grandchildren. The two of us plan to reconnect with the spirits and celebrate our connection to the Universe and all that is part of it. It is actually hard to put into words because it is such a deep, soul level, spirit emotion that we are celebrating. We are fostering peace, calm, respect and appreciation for our lives, each other and the Divine Creator we worship.

For those of you with traumatic memories which you believe have ruined this time of year for you, I invite you to look for ways to celebrate yourself, your accomplishments, the obstacles you’ve overcome, the challenges you’ve defeated and then focus forward, you are in control and have the power to make today, tomorrow, and every day thereafter, how ever you want your life to be. I know it’s hard. Sometimes you have to just start going through the motions and let the (e)motions kick in after you become more comfortable with a new way of acting, interacting, and relating.

For the next three days my posts will be very focused on the holidays, nothing too deep or heavy. On the 25th I probably won’t post, but then I’ll be back on the 26th with more Yuletide cheer.

Where’s the Kaboom

How many of you went to bed last night half-expecting something catastrophic to happen during the night or sometime today? I think some people were really hoping there would be a life changing event because they don’t really like life as it is, or at the very least they are tired of the hurt, suffering, hungry, situations they see everyday and thought maybe there would be a giant reset today. Are you a little disappointed that today was just another day? The reason it was just another day is because, that’s what you made it. Every belief system in the world believes in a Divine Creator. And no matter who or what you believe that Divine Creator is, there is one commonality, we are all created with free will. The freedom to choose how you act, how you treat others, how you spend your free time, how you make use of your belief systems. The truth is, you wake up every day to a giant reset. You can do anything; everything different any day than you did the day before. Do you wish world hunger would end, donate to a food bank. Do you wish women and children were never again abused? Volunteer with a domestic violence program. Do wish there were stricter laws involving hunting of wildlife and protecting endangered species? Start a petition and find out where it needs to go to be voted on. Wish people were just friendlier and happier? Be friendlier and happier. I was in a government building today and the woman helping me seemed rather negative. I waited patiently until our business was complete, I thanked her and then said as sweetly as possible, “Merry Christmas”, her demeanor changed immediately. This is more than just law of attraction, or manifesting. This is even more than “be the change”. Each and every one of you is the world, and that gives each and every one of you the ability to change anything, everything about the world. You don’t need a giant reset, you just need to change.

Double Edge Sword

We’ve all heard the saying, “Be the change you want to see in the world”, and I’ve written more than one blog with the message to “follow your bliss.” With the current societal and economic temperature of our world, trying to have peace and a sustainable income may seem impossible; at the very least, a little daunting. Having the finer things in life and doing what you love, is far too often a double edge sword.

I recently read a Yahoo news article entitled “Don’t Bother Earning These Five Degrees”. I was rather ‘ticked off” to find that I have one of these degrees and have studied courses in two others. Yes, I have studied in three of the five areas Yahoo researchers say are not marketable. And yes, there have been times my bank account reflected this. But in looking back over my life and looking around me today seeing everything from a ‘higher’ perspective; would I change my courses of study? No, and my advice to all of you is still the same; follow your bliss, be the change, seek peace and love first. The average American works 2000 hours a year, and averages approximately 42 years of full-time work, which comes out to approximately 84000 hours of your life spent ‘working’. I understand (trust me on this one) that having a degree in Business Administration may make you more money than a degree in Philosophy or Anthropology, but at the end of the day, which will make you happier and bring more tranquility to your soul? You may also want to ask yourself how you spend your life ‘working’ helps or aids other people or society in general.

My spousal equivalent, William, has degrees in the area of Psychology and works with at risk children and families. But he also wants more in his life so he has a profitable home based internet business (if you want information about his business, email me and I’ll put you in touch with him). My point is there are always options for supplementing your income so you can follow your bliss and spend more time doing what makes you happy. You are in control, you do have options and my belief is that when it’s all said and done, the condition of your soul and peace in your heart are going to matter more than the balance in your checkbook.
